On this date in history: Rick Rude on Nitro and Raw on the same night, Bret screwed Bret

Rick Rude appeared on both Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro on this date in history. This was also the night Vince McMahon's infamous "Bret screwed Bret" interview aired.

Timing is everything!

On November 17, 1997, Rick Rude managed to appear for both World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW) all in one night.

That's because Rude had already taped his segment for Monday Night Raw six days earlier, prior to jumping ship, before his unexpected walk-on during Monday Nitro.

Anyone else remember switching back and forth between both shows (common at that time) and thinking WTF?!? And which version of Rude did you like better?


For those who stayed tuned in to Raw, you saw one of the most infamous interviews in the history of professional wrestling, as Vince McMahon sat down with Jim Ross to explain the events surrounding the "Montreal Screwjob" that occurred just one week and a day before.

"Bret screwed Bret."

This interview is largely credited for playing a big part in McMahon's heel turn and the creation of the Mr. McMahon character that would go on to feud with Stone Cold Steve Austin and draw some of the highest television ratings in history.
