On this date in WWF history: Saturday Night's Main Event features the final appearance of the Brainbusters

Saturday Night's Main Event was taped on this date in WWF history, and featured a fairly stacked line-up including the final appearance of The Brainbusters in the promotion. In fact, it was the last time Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson wrestled as a tag team.

It's always nice when we can use a "This Date in History" post on an entire episode of the once legendary World Wrestling Federation (WWF) program Saturday Night's Main Event, which is what we're doing today for the episode that was taped on this date (Oct. 31, 1989) in Topeka, Kansas.

The show featured a fairly stacked line-up.

The Ultimate Warrior took on Andre the Giant and won via disqualification. Hulk Hogan, the WWF champion at the time, battled Lanny Poffo working his "Genius" gimmick, and the latter actually won by count out. Later, Mr. Perfect, who defeated Red Rooster during the show, destroyed Hogan's title belt.

Elsewhere, Dusty Rhodes went over on Big Bossman and The Rockers defeated the Brainbusters in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match. That match is noteworthy because by the time it aired in November, it marked the final time Tully Blanchard and Arn Anderson worked together as a tag team. This was also their last appearance with the WWF, as Anderson went back to World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Blanchard failed a drug test for cocaine.

Enjoy the show!
