Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.
Important reminder: Rumors are just that -- rumors. None of this has been confirmed as legitimate news or fact; so remember to take it all with a grain of salt.
Rumors for the Day:
- After Tuesday night's Smackdown tapings, Bray Wyatt won a 20 man battle royal dark match to earn a shot at Alberto Del Rio's World Heavyweight Title. Wyatt won the match by count out after Del Rio escaped, but Del Rio was taken back to the ring by Luke Harper and Erick Rowan for a beat down. Damien Sandow then teased cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but was beat down by the Wyatts as well. This likely means nothing in the grand scheme of things, but WWE often tries out potential new storylines and matchups during dark matches and house shows to gauge the reaction of the fans. The Wyatt family becoming involved in the World Heavyweight Title scene would certainly add more intrigue than that scene has had in quite some time.
- While rumors have been strong for quite some time that WWE wants to have multiple matches in the titular cell at the Hell in a Cell pay per view (PPV) later this month, one match that will not be in the cell is John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Title. This plan could change, but as of right now, for the sake of Cena's health, this will be a standard match.
- In Diva news, some in WWE management, including Triple H, are said to be high on Aksana. The former professional bodybuilder from Lithuania has largely been abysmal when it comes to in-ring action, but the WWE brass likes the rest of what she brings to the table. They are currently working to try to find "the right role" for her in the company.
- In more Diva news, it is being said that William Regal has been at WWE's training center in Florida working with the NXT Divas. Regal has had a hand in training some of WWE's top talent in the past and his influence should greatly help the Divas in developmental.
- Christian, king of the Rumor Roundup, is expected to return to in-ring action at this weekend's house show events where he will take on Alberto Del Rio. Christian is also going to be part of WWE's tour of Mexico later next week.
- Slight Smackdown spoiler: The man teaming with El Local to take on Los Matadores was none other than Tyson Kidd in a mask.
