On January 8, 2006, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) held its New Year's Revolution pay-per-view (PPV) event at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, New York.
The headlining bout was an Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship featuring reigning champion John Cena against Kurt Angle, Shawn Michaels, Kane, Carlito, and Chris Masters.
Edge was also on the card, losing to Ric Flair via disqualification in the opening match of the night. But the "Rated-R Superstar" was also holding in his possession, the Money in the Bank (MITB) briefcase, which he won way back at Wrestlemania 21.
After Cena retained his belt by being the last man standing, Edge immediately cashed in his MITB opportunity and rattled off two spears to take advantage of an already worn-down champion.
Like Bret Hart before him, who was also a tag team champion, Intercontinental champion and King of the Ring, Edge moved to the head of the class by securing the most prestigious belt in pro wrestling.
See how it all went down:
What was your reaction to Edge's first title win?
