The Royal Rumble pay-per-view is now less than 24 hours away and we have some breaking news about a couple of other possible surprise entrants in the thirty man, over the top rope, battle royal that will headline the event.
In his subscriber only Wrestling Observer Radio show today, Dave Meltzer reported that Chris Masters and Hurricane Helms are in Phoenix along with Shelton Benjamin and Carlito, the latter two already being confirmed to make an appearance in the Royal Rumble match itself. Indeed, twelve hours ago Helms tweeted that the quartet were all travelling together to the city holding tonight's PPV:
"Finished the 2nd night of this AZ loop, now heading back to Phoenix, with @Sheltyb803 @ChrisMasters310 & @Bodyguylito Good times!"
A picture of the foursome hanging out together last night can be seen here.
Maybe The Hurricane and The Masterpiece are just along for the ride, wanting to catch up with old friends, but obviously no-one should be shocked if either of them take up one of the twelve spots left open in the Rumble.
Chris Masters, real name Chris Mordetzky, was released by WWE on Aug. 5th, 2011 when the company went on one of their annual firing sprees to clear the deadwood from its roster. At the time, despite Masters not being pushed, it was still an eyebrow raising decision, given that he had turned himself into one of the most well rounded performers on the WWE's undercard. Since then, Mordetzky has wrestled around the world on the independent scene, most notably in India as American Adonis for the first and only season of Ring Ka King, Jeff Jarrett's pet project. This led to a dark match tryout for TNA in June 2012 where he lost to Robbie E, but the company passed on signing him to a contract.
Hurricane Helms, real name Gregory Shane Helms, was fired by WWE on Feb. 26th, 2010, a month after being arrested for public intoxication for getting into a fight with Chris Jericho in a taxicab and accidentally striking the other passengers. On May 5th, 2011, he was involved in a horrific motorbike accident with his girlfriend where he suffered a broken leg, ankle, jaw, and nose amongst other minor cuts, bruises and fractures, and his female passenger broke her neck. Helms was driving under the influence at the time and has since become outspoken about the dangers of being behind the wheel while drunk. Amazingly, Helms has managed to return to the ring from those catastrophic injuries, but didn't look good in his first matches back. However, he should be fine for a quick Royal Rumble cameo, if that's what he's in Phoenix for.
