WWE Main Event returned last night (Jan. 16, 2013) with a great match between Randy Orton and Antonio Cesaro, with a patented run in by The Shield.
Additionally, The Prime Time Players faced The Usos in a standard tag team matchup. However, the real delight was having Brad Maddox at ringside "calling" the match.
And yes, it was as glorious as that sounds.

To the reactions!
- Orton and Cesaro had another fantastic match with each other. These two simply do not get the credit they deserve. It's funny how they have both been overshadowed by their peers. Orton has lately been just out of the main event, with John Cena, CM Punk, The Rock, Sheamus, The Big Show, and now Alberto Del Rio edging him out of center stage. Likewise, Cesaro has been upstaged by fellow newcomers The Shield, Ryback, and Damien Sandow. Both work a relatively simple gimmick and put on some of the best matches. It's a shame that the United States Championship is so low on the totem pole. I wouldn't mind seeing these two feuding, and there's no shame to dropping the title to "The Viper."
- Alas, it seems these two men will be parting ways. The Shield would make their way down to the ring to interrupt the festivities. This is the third or fourth time The Shield as attacked Orton. It's far too many to be considered a coincidence or one-off. I'm really hoping that this story evolves as Royal Rumble rolls around. I'm okay for another week or two of The Shield's random attacks. Anymore time, though, and it starts to really drag the group down.
- Luckily for Orton, The Miz was there to make the save! Just kidding. He got his ass whooped as well. Following his beat down, Cesaro climbed back into the ring, gave Miz a Neutralizer, planted his flag into the mat, and placed his foot on Miz's chest, Captain Morgan style. This followed the US Champion using a flying double axehandle during the match, which is apparently a "Miz thing" to do. So these two will feud, Cesaro will drop the belt, and The Miz will be an American Hero as The Marine: Homecoming drops. Let's just hope Cesaro can pick up his momentum coming out of the whole thing.
- The Usos went over The Prime Time Players in a standard tag team affair. The match was good enough, but the real joy was who was calling the action. Since Miz ate a Neutralizer, he was unable to perform his commentary duties. So Michael Cole was joined by...BRAD MADDOX! Yes, Maddox jumped over the barricade, put on the headset, and stole the show. The man was hilarious calling the match. I can't tell what his best line of the night was, but if I had to vote it would be, "If a slobberknocker is slobberknocking, I'm going to call it as such." Just beautiful. He and Cole actually work very well together. I don't know what WWE plans on doing with Maddox, but putting him on commentary may just be the best thing for him.
Another great showing from Main Event this week. Although, the matches weren't as strong as usual, it was a fun show to watch. I strongly encourage everyone to watch Maddox's commentary. You won't regret it. Once again, Wednesday night's prove to be WWE's best offering.
