Although it's been widely assumed for some time now, Ric Flair came right out today (Sept. 4, 2012) and said he wanted to return to WWE soon.
During an interview with FOX and Friends in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, from the Democratic National Convention, one anchor remarked right before the close of the interview that he hopes Vince McMahon sobers up soon and brings "The Nature Boy" back to WWE.
Flair smiled and pointed at him while saying, "I would like that too."
The reason it hasn't happened already is because WWE is still embroiled in a lawsuit filed against them by TNA stemming from the Orlando based promotion's allegation that WWE tampered with Flair while he was still under contract. Interestingly enough, it was revealed during the course of the lawsuit that TNA had fired Flair before ever filing said lawsuit. That being said, WWE also claimed it had no interest in signing Flair for the time being, so it seems likely they won't make a move until the two sides are done going back and forth in court.
Flair's non-compete clause actually expires on Sept. 10, so don't be surprised to see him show up in WWE here soon, possibly as a new manager to Dolph Ziggler.
