DUSTY FINISH!
The main event of the WWE Night of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sun., Sept. 16, 2012) in Boston, Massachusetts, ended in a brilliantly booked double pin draw when John Cena hit a German suplex off the top rope and bridged to pin CM Punk. The referee slapped the mat three times and Cena's music hit, the TD Garden Arena exploding in cheer that he won the WWE championship for the eleventh time.
Except he didn't.
That's because Cena, dum-dum that he is, never bothered to get his shoulders up on the suplex. With both men's shoulders down on the mat, the match was declared a draw, which means the belt stays with the champion.
This was actually brilliantly done, as Cena and Punk showed off all the chemistry we thought they no longer had when they delivered a dud at Raw 1000. This was more like Money in the Bank 2011 and by the time the pinfall came, the live audience was insane for it.
They weren't happy with the reversal. But Punk is even more over as a heel, Cena still looks good and this program will continue on. Everybody wins.
