The original plan for the Night of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) taking place tonight (Sun., Sept. 16, 2012) in Boston, Massachusetts, was to have Diva's Champion Layla defend her title against Eve Torres. A botched finish in a battle royal match on Monday Night Raw a few week's ago led to Kaitlyn landing the number one contender slot instead.
It didn't matter. WWE wrote her off in an injury angle at the show, as she was attacked from behind backstage, leaving her unable to challenge for the belt.
So Booker T made the call to put Torres in the match and she won after a lackluster affair. Michael Cole teased Eve turning heel by saying she won the belt under suspicious circumstances, so don't be surprised to learn Eve was the one who attacked Kaitlyn backstage to put herself into the title match that was supposed to be hers in the first place.
Kayfabe it, though.
