Latest Jerry Lawler updates: Awake, communicating, and going home 'soon'

After a tumultuous couple days, the good news on Jerry "The King" Lawler just keeps rolling in.

The latest comes by way of multiple sources. Let's start with his current girlfriend, Lauryn McBride:

"He is completely stable. He no longer has breathing tube nor any sedation. He is coming around, but very very weak and sore. I have been working with him on breathing treatment exercises every hour to help his lungs. At this point he is getting a lot of rest. He can talk, but doctors have asked him to rest his vocal cords for the time being and relax as much as possible, so he is resting now."

This comes on the heels of reports that Lawler is awake and laughing or crying, depending on the moment, and able to recognize his surroundings. From the sounds of it, all things considered, he's doing as well as can possibly be expected after suffering a big heart attack on a live television show.

WWE has once again released a statement on the matter, providing an update of its own:

As of Wednesday afternoon, September 12, 2012, Jerry 'The King' Lawler remains in a cardiac care unit in Montreal. His vital signs continue to be stable. He is awake, recognizes family members, and is communicating with them. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery.

WREG in Memphis also reported earlier today that Lawler won't need further surgery beyond his angioplasty (read more on what exactly that is right here) and he will be sent back home "soon."

We are also told Lawler is breathing on his own after being removed from a ventilator. It's believed no further surgery will be needed and Lawler will be sent back to Memphis soon.

It's been a rough couple days for "The King", but he's slowly but surely battling through this ordeal.
