During last night's (Sept. 10, 2012) episode of WWE Monday Night Raw, color commentator Jerry Lawler suffered a heart attack live on the air while calling a tag team match. He was immediately attended to by medical personnel, who rushed him to the backstage area where they performed CPR and saved his life.
Lawler was then rushed to the hospital for testing and later, surgery. The latest update on his status comes via his ex-wife, Stacy Carter (better known in WWE as former Diva Miss Kitty or The Kat), who revealed on Twitter:
Just got a @JerryLawler update. He had a (stent) & a balloon put in. Right now he is still heavily sedated. Will update when I know more ... I guess technically with the (stent) & balloon @jerrylawler did have surgery, but no open heart surgery. No new news to report yet.
Meanwhile, WWE has released multiple statements on the incident. The first:
Jerry "The King" Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating during last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw in Montreal. We are hopeful Jerry makes a full recovery and returns to WWE in the near future. Our thoughts are with Jerry and his family.
The latest:
As of this morning, Jerry "The King" Lawler is in a cardiac care unit and all his vital signs are stable. WWE will provide additional information as it becomes available. We continue to wish Jerry all the best for a full recovery.
We'll continue to keep you updated on any and all goings on with Lawler and we continue to wish him the best in this trying time.
