WWE Monday Night Raw comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Sept. 10, 2012) from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and represents the go home show to the Night of Champions pay-per-view (PPV) event scheduled for this Sunday night.
That's almost secondary to the fact that Bret Hart will be returning to the scene of the crime for the first time in 15 years. That's right, folks, "The Hitman" will be back at the site of the infamous Montreal Screwjob.
At least Shawn Michaels isn't heeling it up on the roster, there to rub it in.
CM Punk will also be in town with his new running mate Paul Heyman. There are a million questions to ask but it's almost better just to sit back and wait for the answers than ever bother speculating on anything. A stable building? A way to turn Brock Lesnar babyface? Punk just asserting his backstage power to work with his friend?
Who knows. It should be fun no matter what.
Raw starts at 8 p.m. ET on USA, so be sure to make your way back here to chat with all of your favorite Cagesiders during the show. It's always a fun time. Raw live blog after the jump.
WWE RAW RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR SEPT. 10
Nolan in.
Bret Hart is here, folks.
The fans are rabid for "The Exellence of Execution."
Fans have been chanting for three minutes. They break out into a hockey chant.
Bret says he is speechless after 15 years. He says the last time he was here, it was one of the darkest days of his life. But, it was also the proudest. Hart says that he thanks the fans of Montreal. He says they supported him through everything and he thanks all of them.
CM Punk is here. He is rocking the pink and black.
Taking his sweet time getting to the ring. He is receiving a mixed reaction.
He points to Bret and says that, with all due respect, everyone knows what happened 15 years ago in that encyclopedia of a book he wrote about himself. He says that if he wrote a book about himself he would call it "What If?" As in, what if Punk had faced Hart at Survivor Series 1997?
Hart says it doesn't matter, because he thinks it would have taken less than a minute to lock Punk in a Sharpshooter.
Punk says he doesn't believe Hart, and he knows Hart doesn't believe himself. He says the WWE wouldn't exist if that happened. He says he is the best in the world, and he would have beaten Hart with his own two hands. He says that it would have left a chain reaction that would lead to the fans in the arena right not being here today.
Punk says he would have beaten Hart, no screwjob needed. He would have won, then there would have been no Attitude Era, and he would have jumped ship to WCW, killing the WWE.
Hart says that he is still the "Excellence of Execution" and would have beaten the "Best in the World" because he is "The Best There Is, The Best There Was, and The Best There Ever Will Be."
Punk says he hates when Hart calls himself that, because it doesn't make him king. He says you can call yourself king, but it doesn't mean anything. He then taunts Lawler.
Hart says he has had history with Lawler, but he never would coward out of the ring like Punk did last week. They play the footage from last week on the Titantron.
Punk says he was in his hometown, where they treat champs with respect. He says after all of that, where was John Cena? He beat him down. He asks where Cena is tonight. He asks if Cena has Hart's back and if he will be the white knight that saves Hart.
Hart says that he asked Cena to have this spot so he could talk to the fans. "And with all due respect..."
Punk says Hart doesn't know a damn thing about respect and if he did, he wouldn't talk to him like that. He says he has held the title longer than Bret and will beat Cena at Night of Champions, becoming the best of all-time. Punk asks Bret if he heard how the fans cheered him when he came out and says he deserves that ovation in every arena he is in.
He says Hart is like Cena. He says Hart is overstated like Cena. He says Cena will go to sleep at Night of Champions.
Hart says that Punk is putting these fans to sleep.
The fans oblige with "boring" chants.
Punk says he will leave John Cena a broken shell of a man, just like Hart is.
"Asshole! Asshole! Asshole!"
Punk drops the mic and heads up the ramp.
