Things have definitely gotten interesting in the world of pro wrestling
Kenny King, one half of The All Night Express, the current Ring of Honor (ROH) World Tag Team Champions, appeared on TNA Impact last night and as a result, sees himself no longer affiliated with the Philly-based promotion.
TNA is apparently making use of some of CHIKARA's and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's talent while the former also deals with ROH. They held a joint event in Chicago back in April and their Grand Champion Eddie Kingston will do battle with the ROH World Champion Kevin Steen in the next few weeks.
But CHIKARA is also planning a giant WrestleMania weekend show next year with Dragon Gate USA who always find themselves at odds with ROH thanks to some bad blood.
Yeah, certainly interesting.
Check out the latest news after the jump.
Ring of Honor
Well, the big news coming out of ROH is the aforementioned Kenny King situation. The company felt they had a "gentlemen's agreement" with their now-former tag team champion while King was looking to get paid.
Chasing' that paper, ain't nothing wrong with that.
There's still no word on what ROH plans to do with the tag straps or Rhett Titus, King's All Night Express partner but I wouldn't be surprised if the belts were held up with The Briscoes and Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team vying for them. Shock of shocks, that would be.
This is fresh of The Wrestling Observer reporting dismal numbers for ROH's latest TV tapings in Baltimore as well as the cancellation of two shows due to lack of ticket sales.
Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for the 10-year old promotion?
CHIKARA
The next show is still a few weeks away but CHIKARA is still making moves to make the 2012 King of Trios its most memorable yet.
Here's a rundown of the teams already slated to appear:
- The Extreme Trio - Tommy Dream, 2 Cold Scorpio and Jerry Lynn
- The Batiri - Kodama, Obariyon and Kobald
- F.I.S.T. - Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor and Icarus
- The Throwbacks - Dasher Hatfield, Mr. Touchdown and
Sugar DunkertonMatt Classic - Ring of Honor - The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Mike Bennett (~!!!)
- The Spectral Envoy – UltraMantis Black, Hallowicked and Frightmare
- Team JWP – Commando Bolshoi, Tsubasa Kuragaki and Kaori Yoneyama
The big news, of course, being Mr. Touchdown snubbing Sugar Dunkerton in lieu of getting the masked Colt Cabana on his team. Perhaps the newest Throwback will get a bit of comeuppance as a result of his action at Chikarasaurus Rex?
In the mean time, keep track of Archibald Peck as he journeys back home...
First Philly then New York City which was followed by Stamford and then Montreal. This week, Peck finds himself in Ottawa. Where will he pop up next?
Dragon Gate USA/EVOLVE
On July 28th and 29th, DGUSA invades Detroit and Chicago. Now both cards are starting to come together. After Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano defended his title against Chuck Taylor, he promised Akira Tozawa the next show. That match will go down in Michigan as well as YAMATO taking on Ricochet and a tag team battle between the team of El Generico and Samuray Del Sol against CIMA and AR Fox.
YAMATO takes on Jon Davis the following evening with Tozawa going toe-to-toe with Generico. And to crown the new Open the United Gate Champions, CIMA and AR Fox will take on Ricochet and Rich Swann.
Keep your eyes peel to future editions of Under the Radar for card update.
