Under the Radar: The latest news from the world of independent wrestling

Order SHINE Wrestling 1 here

Yes, yes, WWE is coming off their Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) and has Raw 1,000 this Monday (July 23) while TNA is riding a strong wave of momentum building off their Destination X show but that action is relegated to between Sundays and Thursdays.

What about the rest of the week?

That's where indie wrestling steps in.

Tonight, SHINE Wrestling makes its debut on internet pay-per-view (iPPV) and two indie heavyweights in CHIKARA and Dragon Gate USA (DGUSA) have a pair of shows each next weekend.

If keeping up with the latest and greatest from indie rasslin' seemed overwhelming to you, Under the Radar is just the feature to keep you up to date.

Check out the latest news after the jump.

Ring of Honor

Not much going on in the world of Ring of Honor (ROH) but the old adage "no news is good news" may not ring true in this case. After their house show in Milwaukee drew a paltry 400 fans, rumors of unrest in the ROH locker room began to intensify.

The lack of shows for the by appearance paid roster is likely the main reason Kenny King jumped ship to TNA earlier this month. In fact, only three ROH events separate fans from their next iPPV in September, Death Before Dishonor X. They have TV tapings the first weekend of August, a house show in Rhode Island the following weekend and a house show in Charlotte, NC the weekend before the iPPV.

These are not good signs.

CHIKARA

Conversely, CHIKARA seems to be holding more shows than ever. They're holding a pair of shows next weekend, a pair in August which all lead up to the huge three-day King of Trios weekend.

Here's an updated line-up of what teams have been announced so far:

  • The Extreme Trio - Tommy Dream, 2 Cold Scorpio and Jerry Lynn
  • The Batiri - Kodama, Obariyon and Kobald
  • F.I.S.T. - Johnny Gargano, Chuck Taylor and Icarus
  • The Throwbacks - Dasher Hatfield, Mr. Touchdown and Sugar Dunkerton Matt Classic
  • Ring of Honor - The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) and Mike Bennett (~!!!)
  • The Spectral Envoy – UltraMantis Black, Hallowicked and Frightmare
  • Team JWP – Commando Bolshoi, Tsubasa Kuragaki and Kaori Yoneyama
  • The Swarm – combatANT, deviANT, Soldier Ant
  • Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw and Manami Toyota
  • The Faces of Pain – The Warlord, Barbarian, Meng (~!!!)
  • OSAKA Pro – Kikutaro, Ebessan, Tako Yakida

By my count, there's still five teams left to be announced. I would love to see a trio called The Runner Ups consisting of Marty Jannetty, Rick Steiner and Jim Neidhart.

And finally, it looks like "Marchie Archie" himself, Archibald Peck has made it home.

Dragon Gate USA/EVOLVE/SHINE Wrestling

Next weekend brings the next doubleshot of DGUSA shows and September 8 has been announced for EVOLVE 17 -- featuring Sami Callihan, Super Smash Brothers (~!!!) and MASADA (DOUBLE ~!!!) -- but tonight, the ladies take over.

SHINE Wrestling debuts tonight on iPPV and you can watch live starting at 8 p.m. ET by order the show right here. $10 gets you the live show, $15 adds on demand viewing while spending $25 gets you both and also a DVD of the show once it's produced.

Check out the line-up:Sara Del Rey vs. Jazz
Nikki Roxx vs. Rain
Veda Scott vs. Kimberly
Santana Garrett vs. Tina San Antonio
Tracy Taylor & Su Yung vs. Allysin Kay & Taylor Made
Reby Sky vs. Jayme Jameson
Mercedes Martinez vs. Leva Bates
Christina Von Eerie vs. Cherry Bomb

Plus Live Event Hostess Daffney

Check out this video featuring the lovely Santana Garrett, Christina Von Eerie and Daffney on Daytime, promoting the show.

Anarchy Championship Wrestling

ACW returns this Sunday for From Innocence to Insanity 6 which also happens to be their 100th event. The card is stacked from top to bottom and we may even see a few surprises.

After months of feuding, ACH puts up the ACW Heavyweight Championship in a one-on-one showdown with Jaykus Plisken. Robert Evans collides with Bolt Brady in a showcase bout as do The Submission Squad member Gary Jay and Ring of Honor's Jimmy Jacobs.

Jay's Submission Squad brethren will have their own hands full as Evan Gelistico takes on JT LaMotta in the Texas veteran's retirement match and the duo of Pierre Abernathy and Davey Vega challenge for the ACW Tag Team Championship in a ladder match against the champs, The Dream Warriors -- Darin Childs and Kris Wolfe -- and The Lost Boys and JoJo Bravado.

Matthew Palmer will defend his Hardcore title but against who? Well, Shawn Vexx is also issuing an open challege on Sunday. Hmmm. Two grudge matches come to a head as Killah Kash collides with Scot Summers and Rachel Summerlyn -- with the lovely Machiko at her side -- takes on the deadly Lady Poison.

More matches will unfold including the most exciting for me, a four-way dance for the ACW American Joshi Championship. Angel Blue cheated her way to the title at Guillty by Association 6 and has held onto the belt by the skin of her teeth since then. On Sunday, she'll have to get through 2012 Queen of Queens Athena, Barbi Hayden and the lovable grump Portia Perez.

If my own little lady wasn't turn two-years-old this weekend, I would watch these female warriors go to war.

That's all for this week, folks! See you next week for more indie wrestling chatter!

Next week, we'll have an in-depth look at all four CHIKARA and DGUSA shows plus Beyond Wrestling returns!
