Originally, news broke a couple weeks ago that Mysterio would be making his big return at the 1,000th episode of Monday Night Raw on July 23, 2012, in St. Louis. Perhaps for added shock value, the decision was made to bring him back a little early and have him reignite his feud with Alberto Del Rio during last night's (July 16) episode of Raw in Las Vegas.
It's been a tumultuous year for Mysterio. He hurt his knee in the summer but worked a match at SummerSlam, protected, to help set up a WWE championship match against Alberto Del Rio in his hometown of San Diego on Raw the next night. It was there that he hurt himself even worse and had to leave to get yet another surgery.
After he recovered and was all ready to come back, he was informed he failed a drug test and was suspended for 60 days due to it being his second violation. That was back in April and he's been eligible to come back for nearly a month now.
For whatever reason, they picked last night to bring him back into the fold and add yet another big name talent back to the roster. Presumably, he'll settle up with Del Rio over the next month or two.
