The 1,000th episode of World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) flagship show, Monday Night Raw, which takes place on July 23, 2012, in St. Louis, Missouri, has its main event.
John Cena vs. CM Punk for the WWE championship.
The match came to be when Cena won the Money in the Bank Ladder match this past Sunday night that garnered him a contract for a guaranteed title shot at a time of his choosing over the next year. He's opted not to waste any time, announcing on last night's episode of Raw that he would challenge Punk on next week's historic show.
This couldn't work out better for WWE. They get to promote the two biggest stars on the roster competing against each other for the most prestigious belt in the promotion on the biggest free show in the history of the company. When they're done, no matter who wins, they can easily set up a rematch for SummerSlam next month.
Everybody wins, including the fans. What more could we ask for?
Feel free to fantasy book this one, Cagesiders. Does Cena win and continue the streak of Money in the Bank winners making good on cashing in the briefcase? Or does Punk somehow retain the title? Where will the Rock fit in all this?
Let's hear your best ideas.
