Who is the most popular pro wrestler of all time?

That's a question I was debating with my lady friend last night, a discussion that spurred this poll to see what all you Cagesiders think. My basic thought process was that if the criteria is television ratings, pay-per-view (PPV) buyrates, merchandise sales, house show attendance and so on and so forth, we should be able to determine a clear winner, right?

She didn't necessarily agree. Her thought is that it's entirely too difficult to judge longevity, not to mention how different the business has been throughout the past 50 years. So many changes have taken place that are impossible to account for that even if you compile all the numbers from the metrics I mentioned, that won't necessarily give you the best idea as to who was the most popular of all time. Maybe over a number of years you could determine as much, but all time?

Not as easy.

That led us to the obvious idea to take a poll here on Cageside Seats, not because it would give us a clear answer, necessarily, but because the results should be most interesting, to say the least.

We're giving you a number of choices as well as a write-in slot for anyone you feel we've left out. Take the poll below and let us know. We'll post the full results with some analysis tomorrow.

UPDATE -- The poll is incredibly close so we're going to give it until 10 p.m. ET tonight to determine a winner. If you haven't voted yet, please do so now!

And for those complaining about who is on the list to vote for, there is an option for Other and you can specify in the comments. With how little that has happened, I would imagine these super popular guys not on the list aren't popular enough and it works out in the end.
