It doesn't seem like it's been so long but Rey Mysterio has been out of action since SummerSlam last year. He was protected in a tag match while nursing a knee injury but was thrown out on Monday Night Raw the next night and went all out in a WWE championship match against Alberto Del Rio in his hometown of San Diego.
The result saw Mysterio blow his knee out. He's been riding the pine ever since.
Initially, he wanted to return by WrestleMania 28, which he was obviously unable to do, though he did participate in weekend activities. Now, he's updated fans via his official Twitter account and given his new target return date:
"I really miss performing for all of u & thank u 4 all the LUV,i am pushing myself to come back from my injury by May! Almost their!1 LUV!"
With Mark Henry finally healed up, Alberto Del Rio having returned to challenge for the world heavyweight championship and Brock Lesnar back in the fold, Mysterio shouldn't be in a big hurry to get back. At 37-years-old and already having undergone around 619 knee surgeries, he should take his time to get back to full strength before coming back.
