I don't know about the rest of you Cagesiders but one of the best wrestling events I saw last year was CHIKARA's season-ending High Noon show from the old ECW Arena -- pour out your 40 -- on Nov. 13.
The show had everything: guys dressed up as ants, Colt Cabana and Archibald Peck doing their thing, an insane tag team brawl, Sara Del Rey beating the living hell out of someone and a fantastic main event which saw Eddie Kingston win the Grand Championship after defeating Mike Quackenbush.
Since it was the first time the company had ventured into the internet pay-per-view (iPPV) realm, it was also the first opportunity many fans -- including myself -- got to see the promotion live as CHIKARA still operates mainly in the northeastern United States. My Cageside colleague Thomas Holzerman, a Philadelphia native and dirty Eagles fan, catches CHIKARA action as often as he can. The rest of us aren't as lucky.
Well, our luck is about to start changing.
The promotion made this announcement via their Twitter earlier today:
CHIKARA returns to iPPV on June 2nd in the City of Brotherly Love w/ "Chikarasaurus Rex"!
Oh, yeah.
Hot on the heels of last night's throwdown between Kingston and Kevin Steen during Ring of Honor's (ROH) 10th Anniversary Show and next month's co-promoted Synergy event in Chicago, you can surely expect some ROH talent to make an appearance during the annual event.
Being four months away, a line-up has yet to be announced but expect news to trickle in over the next few weeks. The promotion didn't disappoint with their initial iPPV offering, I wouldn't expect them to do so this time around.
Mark your calendars, Cagesiders, you've got a date with wrestling the first weekend of June.
