First, John Cena was a Marine, then Ted DiBiase and now Randy Orton gets the honors.
Variety brings word of the news:
WWE is rounding up the troops for its third installment of "The Marine" franchise, tapping Randy Orton to star, while Scott Wiper ("The Condemned") is in early talks to direct "The Marine: Homefront."
The actioner, designed as a standalone pic, is the first of three straight-to-homevideo titles that WWE Studios will produce with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment through a deal brokered in February.
The first Marine movie, starring Cena, did $22 million worldwide, not a terrible haul and enough that a sequel was done with DiBiase getting his big chance to shine. Surprisingly, the movie did well enough on DVD to garner one more trip to the well, this time with a much bigger star.
But is Orton up to the job?
"Looks like I'll be filming a movie in the summer, Marine 3," Orton tweeted last night. "Always have wanted to do an action movie, and I'm finally getting the chance."
Anyone besides joliemadchen eagerly awaiting this DVD?
