WWE: The Rock is pencilled in to wrestle at WrestleMania 29 in New Jersey

As we reported ten days ago, The Rock was in attendance for the official press conference to announce that the location of WrestleMania 29 would be the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, and he vowed that he would appear on the show and "electrify MetLife Stadium like never before". Our site manager Geno Mrosko wasn't sure from this cagey statement what his role would entail, but it would likely entail putting boots to asses in front of Team Bring It, as there are many fresh dream matches still left for The Rock once his feud with John Cena is over. That would definitely fit with Vince McMahon's current WrestleMania philosophy of using the event to bring back their biggest past superstars while showcasing their finest newer stars, with the idea being that featuring the previous generation will get lapsed fans to watch the show, which will give further enhanced exposure for the next generation of WWE performers.

This is not just guesswork on my part, as Wade Keller reported in this week's Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter that The Rock is indeed pencilled in to compete at WrestleMania 29 already:

"As for Rock being at the WM29 press conference itself, it gave away that he's not clocking out after WrestleMania 28. Sources confirmed with me that Rock is indeed scheduled to wrestle at WM29 at Met Life Stadium in the NY/NJ market. Maybe he'll wrestle between WM28 and WM29, too. That has major ramifications."

Keller then went onto suggest John Cena again, CM Punk, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin as possible opponents. I'd imagine they'll try to get as much mileage out of the Cena feud as they possibly can, but it will be hard to keep the feud going for another year. Of that bunch, Punk would be the best choice, as they already have an inbuilt shoot storyline and it would help make the straight edge messiah a much bigger superstar to casual fans and the mainstream media, something Rock has been criticised for not doing enough of so far. The other matches would perhaps be far too nostalgic for their own good, though people would buy The Rock as possibly being the one person who could break Undertaker's streak, especially if he beats Cena this year. What are your thoughts, Cagesiders? Who would you like to face The Rock at WrestleMania 29?
