WWE and SyFy announce live Smackdown on Feb. 21

If we Cagesiders weren't huge dorks and actually had plans for Friday nights, this would be huge news. But such is the life of the wrestling fan.

At least that life gets a little brighter on Feb. 21 when WWE presents Smackdown live for the first time since Aug. 30, 2011.

The show last summer, of course, was of a much grander scale than your average, run of the mill taped Smackdown. John Cena showed up and took on Wade Barrett, Triple H and CM Punk had their contract signing before their Night of Champions showdown and Randy Orton defended his World Heavyweight Championship against Christian -- I miss that guy -- in a steel cage match.

There's no reason why we shouldn't expect a show on the same level.

2012 Royal Rumble winner Sheamus revealed he wasn't going to decide which title he would challenge for at WrestleMania 28 until after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV) and this special, live airing of Smackdown happens to be going down two days afterwards. Barring a massive swerve from WWE Creative, it seems a Chris Jericho and CM Punk program is all but locked for the WWE Title which would leave Sheamus the World Heavyweight Championship. Don't be surprised to see a staredown or something of the like between "Great White" and the champ.

And as for the champ, it's currently Daniel Bryan but he has to go through Orton, Barrett, Cody Rhodes, The Great Khali and The Big Show a week from Sunday if he hopes to hang onto the belt. I expect Bryan to win out at Elimination Chamber and take on The Big Show one last time two days later putting an end to their feud.

Sheamus steps in -- likely along with Randy Orton -- and the World Heavyweight Championship match for "The Granddaddy of them All" is set.

At least, there's my educated guess.

The full press release is available after the jump. I personally loved the use of the phrase "imagine-based entertainment."
