WWE Main Event returned last night (Dec. 12) to deliver a Battle Royal match to determine the #1 Contender to Antonio Cesaro's United States Championship. The Great Khali managed to outlast 19 other WWE Superstars to earn the right to go one-on-one with Cesaro for the strap on next week's Main Event.
Additionally, 3MB took on International Airstrike in a fun tag team match that saw Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel emerge victorious.
To the reactions!
- There are few things more fun in sports entertainment than a Battle Royal. When you throw enough talented workers into the ring at the same time, fans are going to be entertained. Last night's match was no different. There was the early exit with poor Yoshi Tatsu getting tossed early. There was the obligatory big man spot between Khali and Brodus Clay. Most tag teams were working together, as teammates should. But the moment when Santino Marella tossed Zack Ryder over was a great spot to witness. All told, it was a color-by-numbers Battle Royal that was worth watching.
- That being said, why oh why did The Great Khali take this? Wasn't he in some dumb angle with Hornswoggle? Why doesn't WWE stay with that? I mean, it isn't the most entertaining piece of WWE television. But it was far and away better than watching Khali face Cesaro will be. I don't understand why Khali is still employed, nor why he is allowed near a pro wrestling ring. This just leaves me scratching me head.
- With that being said, it will be impressive as hell if Cesaro can hit the Neutralizer on Khali. I have my doubts if he can do it, but it will be something to watch for next Wednesday.
- International Airstrike went over 3MB in the night's second match. All parties looked great, and both groups have bright futures in WWE. Although it was an odd choice for 3MB to eat the pin, that is what happens when you team up a bunch of jobbers.
As with most weeks, Main Event proves to be WWE's most consistent and entertaining show. It is always an enjoyable way to spend an hour on Wednesday night.
This week's episode gets a "B-" from the C.J. It would have been a B+ if anyone but Khali went over, but oh well.
How did you Cagesiders enjoy the festivities?
