As is done each week, WWE set up the headlining match for next week's episode of Main Event at the end of last night's (Nov. 21, 2012) show. In this instance, it was Damien Sandow coming out to announce his match with John Cena -- the first time the most popular wrestler in the industry today will appear on the show -- and cut a promo to get us ready for it.
And the promo was awesome. Here it is:
"Allow me to beg your indulgence for one moment. My name is Damien Sandow and I am here to help all of you. As your intellectual savior, I can no longer stand idly by and watch as you, the unwashed masses, plunge further into the bowels of your own inadequacies and shortcomings. Henceforth, next week on this very serial, I will finally get the opportunity to rid the WWE of its most offensive delinquent -- John Cena.
"John Cena's hypocrisies know no bounds. From his silly hand gestures, to his sophomoric prose, to that lewd public display of affection we witnessed this past Monday on Raw. This is a disease that must and will be purged from the WWE at my hand.
"Therefore, I declare this the 21st day of the eleventh month in the year 2012 Anno Domini, that John Cena is the WWE's ultimate false idol.
"You're welcome."
And that's why Damien Sandow is so beloved by so many hardcore fans.
As for Cena, it's interesting that WWE ran such a beautifully crafted injury angle with him this past Monday night on Raw but then had him wrestle on Saturday Morning Slam, booked him for SmackDown and are now putting him on Main Event next week.
No selling after all? That's up to you to decide.
