WWE 'SmackDown' results and live blog for Oct. 5: CM Punk vs Dolph Ziggler, 'Hell in a Cell' hype

Complete results and a running live blog for tonight's (Oct. 5, 2012) episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown, featuring CM Punk taking on Dolph Ziggler in the main event of the evening as well as all the continued hype for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view that is not just three weeks away.

WWE SmackDown comes waltzing back into our lives tonight (Oct. 5, 2012) from Tulsa with a taped show on SyFy featuring CM Punk hitting up the blue brand for a main event match against Internet darling Dolph Ziggler.

Of course, Big Show and Sheamus are also prominently featured as they continue to build towards their world heavyweight championship match at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) that is just over three weeks away.

Elsewhere, the tag team title tournament continues!

Big Show is here to kick us off.

Show has the mic. He says he has an opportunity to win the WHC at Hell in a Cell. Big Show says Sheamus thinks he has a plan, but everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. He says that at Hell in a Cell, Sheamus can take comfort in knowing that he will be joining an elite group of victims who have suffered at the hands of "The World's Largest Athlete."

Video package rolls, showing Show taking out numerous superstars.

Show is impressed with that package. He says they all have eaten his fist, which he then holds up into the camera, showing how huge that fist is.

Enter Sheamus.

Sheamus says that he thanks Show for the heads up and he is ready for the biggest fight of his life. Sheamus says he is here to tell him that he wants the best man to win and extends his hand.

Show scowls and just leaves the ring.

Sheamus calls him and says that everyone has a plan, just like Daniel Bryan had at TLC last year.

Footage rolls of Bryan cashing in the MITB contract to win the WHC.

Show looks really angry as Sheamus comments how rough that was. Sheamus also said Bryan had a plan at Wrestlemania, then the footage rolls.

Show heads back to the ring to confront Sheamus. He puts out his hand for a handshake. Sheamus looks confused and walks out with the hand extended, only to do the high school thing and yank it away as he walks out. Sheamus smiling proudly on the stage and Show looks pissed.

Sheamus will take on Miz tonight, while Show will have his hands full with Tensai.

Tag Team Tournament: Kofi Kingston and R-Truth vs. Prime Time Players

Kofi and Young start.

Kofi gets a side headlock and Young sends him off the ropes. Rope running predicament leads to Kofi landing a dropkick. Nearfall off of the dropkick.

R-Truth in and the team pulls a double hip-toss and Kofi puts a boot to the face for good measure. Truth plays to the fans and gets a leg drop for a nearfall. Truth in control, but Young picks him up and isolates him in the corner.

Titus O'Neil brought in. Truth ducks under Young's attack and gets Titus and goes back and forth, but Titus stops that with a kick to the stomach. Huge gutbuster by Titus gets him a nearfall. Titus stomping Truth in the Prime Time Player corner. Titus choking Truth with the second rope and the ref admonishes him, allowing Young to land a kick to the face on the apron. Titus gets the cover but only gets a nearfall with Truth being under the rope.

Truth fighting back in the ring, but Titus knees Truth in the face. Young in and Titus with the front Suplex on Young that gets a nearfall. Young with a bearhug from behind on Truth. Truth fighting, but a knee from Young to the gut ends that. Young plays to the fan and goes off the ropes, but runs into a Truth dropkick.

Truth gets Kingston in. Flying forearm and clotheslines. Takes out Titus. Dropkick and flying clothesline for Kingston.

Boom Drop lands.

Trouble in Paradise upcoming, but Titus gets on the apron for the distraction. Truth takes him out. Kofi goes for the finisher, but Young ducks under and goes off the ropes. Kofi up for it again, but Young slides under and Kofi goes near the ropes. Titus is there to trip up Kingston.

Young is there with Kofi on his shoulders and hits the signature Gutbuster. Titus holds Truth from breaking the pin.

Prime Time Players advance.

Primo vs. Ryback

Primo gets the back, but Ryback takes him up and puts him down. Primo gets the side headlock and goes off the ropes, only to eat a big boot. Ryback slamming his head in the mat. Primo goes for a punch, but Ryback grabs his head. Facebuster as he is thrown to the canvas.

Primo runs the ropes and goes for a tilt-a-whirl move, but Ryback catches him. Primo escapes and shoulder blocks Ryback's leg from behind. Dropkick to Ryback. More stomps and another dropkick. Primo with the front headlock.

And he goes flying.

Clothesline from Ryback and Ryback whips Primo hard into the corner.

Primo scoots outside. Rosa and Epico want this match to end and begin to go up the stage, but Ryback takes chase and clobbers Epico with a clothesline. Primo tries to attack, but Ryback presses Primo back in.

Hard clothesline and it is time to finish him.

Shell Shocked lands and the pinfall. Ryback is fed a victory.

Heyman asks where he can find Dolph Ziggler and they putter off.

Layla vs. Alicia Fox

Lockup and Layla rolls Fox up for a nearfall.

Lockup again and Layla with the arm drag. Layla charges at a cornered Fox, who does the splits on the top and rolls Layla up, but Layla with a dropkick off the roll-through.

Layla with a smack of Fox's booty and a forearm. Layla sent off the ropes and she gets an arm drag into a pinning predicament for a nearfall. Fox catches Layla's kick and torques the leg. Fox working Layla's left leg. She slams it into the mat.

She smacks a little booty herself and again attempts to slam the leg, but Layla fights out with forearms. Fox stops this and gets a Northern Lights Suplex for a nearfall. Fox with a spinning toehold and a cover for a nearfall.

Fox again working a leg lock/toe hold variant. Fox gets caught using the ropes and the hold is broke. Layla fighting with kicks and Fox sends her into the corner. Layla out and gets her springboard crossbody for a nearfall, but her leg gives out. Fox chases the prone Layla and eats a head kick.

Layla gets the cover and takes the win.

Ziggler and Vickie chatting it up backstage.

They run into Punk and Heyman.

Punk asks what Ziggler's problem is, and Vickie starts to speak. Punk says Ziggler can speak for himself. Ziggler asks Punk what his problem is and Punk is upset about being left alone in their tag match on Monday, wondering if Ziggler's "old lady" put him up to it.. Ziggler says Punk and his "worm" did the same a few weeks back.

Punk says that is is a problem since he is the WWE Champion and that Vickie needs to teach Ziggler respect. The two argue and Booker comes in. He sets up a match between the two later tonight.

Wade Barrett vs. Local Talent

Barrett puts this guy in the corner and pounds him with punches.

Local fellow charges and eats a side kick to the stomach. Pumphandle slam and he steps on the neck of the local guy. Local guy punching the torso of Barrett, but Barrett picks him up with a double leg and sits him on the top rope. Ref wants a break and Barrett shoves the newcomer to the outside, landing the back of his head on the floor.

Barrett brings it back inside. Barrett gives him The Souvenir and he gets the victory.

The Miz vs. Sheamus

Lockup and Miz ducks out of any offense Sheamus presents.

Miz with a kick to the stomach and works Sheamus in the corner. Ref breaks it and Sheamus reverses it to pummel Miz in the corner. Miz off the ropes and he eats a Sheamus elbow. Sheamus with an arm wringer and he steps over to crank the arm. Nearfall for Sheamus.

Miz between the ropes and he uses that to take advantage of Sheamus with some strikes. Off the ropes and he is up on Sheamus' shoulders. Miz elbows out and tosses Sheamus to the outside. Sheamus on the apron and Miz with a running knee. Sheamus up again and sticks his head between the ropes, eating another knee. Miz goes outside and tosses Sheamus into the post.

Back inside and Miz gets a nearfall. Stomps from Miz and he lands a running kick for a nearfall. Miz locks in a neck crank, but Sheamus stands and gets out. Miz gets Sheamus and drops him on his knee with a neckbreaker, then gets the more traditional neckbreaker in his signature style. Nearfall.

Miz again moves to that neck crank, but now working it as a sleeper. Sheamus fights out, but Miz stops that with a knee. Sheamus reverses and sends Miz into the ropes for a few axhandle smashes. Running knee lift. Sheamus with a fireman's carry roll-through slam. Irish Curse set up, but Miz elbows out. He goes to the corner and Sheamus follows, eating a dropkick to the knee. DDT plants Sheamus for a nearfall.

Both men down.

Miz stalking Sheamus, who is cornered. Miz looking for his running sitdown clothesline, but Sheamus gets the Irish Curse. Miz on the apron and he eats ten forearms to the chest. White Noise converts.

Brogue Kick time.

Big Show comes out.

He walks down to ringside and lumbers to the apron. He hits Miz with the WMD, giving Miz a victory and showing Sheamus an example of what may happen at Hell in a Cell.

David Otunga in the ring.

He says that he wants to speak on the behalf of the WWE locker room, as he wants to address what happened after SmackDown last week.

Footage of Alberto Del Rio taking out Randy Orton.

Otunga wants to thank Alberto Del Rio for taking out the menace known as Randy Orton. He thanks ADR for the courage it took to take out Orton.

Randy Orton's music hits.

And Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez appear.ADR impersonates Orton, then says that Orton wouldn't dare to be in the same arena as him. He says he cut off the head of the snake that is "the Viper." Del Rio says he is the new "Apex Predator" and hits Orton's pose.

Booker T is here and does not look pleased. He says since ADR has some free time, he has a tag team match in store for Otunga and ADR.

Team Hell No, folks.

Team Hell No vs. Alberto Del Rio and David Otunga

Bryan and Otunga start.

Bodyslam from Otunga. He poses for Bryan after hitting the move. Another bodyslam attempt, but Bryan lands his kicks. Bryan off the ropes and he gets a clothesline. Otunga off to the corner and he gets the running dropkick.

Bryan then starts doing a Hogan impression of sorts, mocking Otunga.

Locking for the "NO!" lock, but Otunga goes to the apron and brings his arm down over the ropes.

ADR in and he kicks Bryan in the gut. Snap suplex gets ADR a nearfall. ADR working the sleeper and fishhooks the nose of Bryan a bit before making the hold legal again. Bryan fights out and gets a sunset flip for a nearfall. ADR up and a clothesline to Bryan gets him a nearfall. ADR puts Bryan in the corner, but he eats a drop toehold into a turnbuckle.

Kane in and gets the big boot. Whipping ADR from corner to corner and clotheslines follow, then getting the sidewalk slam for a nearfall.

Kane up top. He lands the flying clothesline. He wants the Chokeslam and Bryan attempts to tag himself in, but Kane grabs his hand and they bicker. ADR pushes Kane into Bryan, sending him down. Enzuigiri to Kane.

Otunga brings himself in and gets the spinebuster for a nearfall. ADR has walked away. Otunga gets caught in a Chokeslam and Kane lands it. Bryan tags himself in and lands a flying headbutt. Cover and pinfall to Bryan.

Bryan states that he is the tag team champions. Kane begs to differ. The two argue in the middle of the ring.

Eve talking to Teddy Long backstage.

They argue about Eve suspending Phoenix. Long says he can see through Eve and he knows that Eve has something to do with the attack on Kaitlyn. Teddy says Booker is inexperienced as a GM and she may fool Booker, but not him.

Booker here and says that he won't tolerate the two arguing and that he is ultimately in charge.

Teddy understands and looks concerned as Booker leaves.

Big Show vs. Tensai

The two exchange strikes and Tensai works Big Show into the corner. He starts pummeling Show, but Show fires back with a huge chop to the chest. And another. Big Show charges a cornered Tensai and eats a boot. Tensai wants to whip Show, but Show sends him outside.

Action moves outside and Show drops Tensai with a shoulder block.

Action back inside. Big Show goes for an elbow drop but misses. Tensai with the back splash, but only gets a nearfall.

Tensai charges a cornered Big Show, but misses. Show comes back with a spear. WMD ready.

Sheamus comes out and cracks Tensai with a Brogue Kick, giving Tensai the victory.

Raw Rebound shows what happened on Monday with AJ Lee and featuring the main event tag match between Ziggler and Punk taking on Team Hell No.

CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler

The two jaw at each other and a shoving match starts. Punk ends it with a side headlock on Ziggler. Ziggler gets out and gets one of his own. Ziggler off the ropes and gets a shoulder block.

Rope running predicament gets Ziggler a dropkick. He goes for a sleeper, but Punk gets him up on his shoulders.

Stalemate as we head to break.

Punk has a bearhug from behind as we get back. Ziggler gets a hammerlock, then a side headlock. Side headlock takeover and Ziggler holding. Punk gets the legscissors over the head of Ziggler, choking him. Ziggler gets out slowly and jumps back into a side headlock. Punk gets out with the side suplex.

Punk moves to the apron and goes up top. Ziggler meets him and they both fight to the top of the turnbuckles. It ends in a stalemate as they slug each other with punches and both fall to the arena floor.

Ref starts the count as both men have their managers encourage them to get back inside.

Both men barely make the count.

In the middle of the ring, the two exchange strikes. Ziggler goes for a clothesline, but Punk rolls up for a nearfall. Ziggler gets a rollup and a handful of tights for a nearfall. Punk yells at the ref and eats a jumping DDT that gets Ziggler a nearfall.

Ziggler wants a Fameasser, but Punk ducks and goes for the head kick. Ziggler ducks and hits the Fame Asser. Nearfall. Ziggler drags Punk to his feet, but Punk gets out and lands a head kick. Nearfall. Ziggler in the corner and Punk gets the flying knee and follows with a clothesline. Nearfall once again.

Punk with a bodyslam and he goes to the top. Punk mean mugs the fans and Ziggler crotches him. Ziggler with some punches and gets the gorilla press to send Punk to the mat. Ziggler charges a cornered Punk and splashes...straight into the turnbuckles.

Ziggler up on the shoulders of Punk and he is ready to go to sleep. GTS hits. Punk hooks the leg and gets the pinfall and victory over Ziggler.

Punk climbs to the announce table. He says he wants to correct this disrespect. He says fans want him to be facing Cena at Hell in a Cell, so therefore, Punk will not be facing Cena.

Fading to black as Punk looks defiant.

End.
