Stone Cold Steve Austin is a feature columnist for Fighting Spirit Magazine and considering his attitude towards the professional wrestling business, it's always fascinating to get his take on the current talent roster in WWE.
In his most recent piece, Austin talked about World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus and how he may be good now but he's still got a ways to go (via FSM.co.uk):
"Sheamus is a big talented dude, no doubt about it. Can he get to where the company wants him to go? That remains to be seen, and there's a lot of work required from both him and the company in order to jump to that superstar level. He's doing fine for the amount of time he's been in the business, and there is no disrespect intended, but there are so many aspects that go towards making a guy draw money with the title."
He's right, of course, but that's painting with fairly broad brushstrokes.
For his part, Sheamus responded to this on Twitter this past weekend and as you may have guessed, he was classy the whole way:
"Appreciate words from @steveaustinBSR - I strive to get better everyday fella & hard work is something I love.. See me bring Hell in a Cell."
To which Austin replied:
"Go get em, kid. Always be a student of the game and keep working hard. Safe travels. #respect from the #BSR."
No beef here.
Still, Austin's original words ring true. Sheamus is doing well for himself but he's missing that little extra something needed to push him over the top into the John Cena stratosphere.
