Brodus Clay stands at #12 in the Wrestler Wrankings, which is a fine showing by any standard. What's not so terrific is that he has gone a month without scoring a point. That's not very impressive for a guy that, not too long ago, appeared to be an undefeated sensation along the lines of a #2 Ryback. Now Brodus is losing matches at a regular clip, while "Big Hungry" is about to challenge for the most prestigious title in all of sports.

What's more is that Clay has been active the entire season, but lies firmly behind the likes of #5 John Cena, #6 Daniel Bryan, #7 Randy Orton, and #7 Antonio Cesaro, who have all missed significant time in the singles wrestling scene, for various reasons.

Just for kicks, let's look at the Funkasaurus' month-by-month Wrankings point performance:

  • April: 4 points
  • May: 9 points
  • June: 5 points
  • July: 6 points
  • August: 0 points
  • September: 4 points
  • October: 0 points

Uneven though they might be, these monthly numbers do seem to show a general drop off in performance that just may coincide with an increase in the level of competition. Bottom line, Brodus has but 4 points to his name since mid-July. He'll need some major point outbursts to remain a fixture in the Wrestler Wrankings Top 10.

Next week, we'll take an in-depth look at the aforementioned Ryback's season to date, in advance of his mammoth title shot against CM Punk at Hell in a Cell.
