After The Rock tweeted an advertisement for Survivor Series 2011 that says he will team up with John Cena at the Nov. 20 event at Madison Square Garden in New York, WWE.com has gone a very interesting route and used its website to officially announce as much earlier today.
Here's the word:
WWE sources have confirmed that The Rock and John Cena will be a part of a Traditional 5-on-5 Survivor Series Tag Team Match.
I can't recall WWE using this method of delivering news before, especially something like this that would normally be reserved for a live announcement on Raw. Then again, it's an easy way to put out news that was basically already out there, not to mention get fans to go to the recently revamped WWE website.
Earlier today Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer brought word that this was the case and let on that the current plans are to have one team consist of Rock, Cena, CM Punk and Sheamus vs. a team that will likely consist of Alberto Del Rio, Miz, R-Truth and one other heel. They were under the impression it would be an eight-man match, so there are still two more holes to fill.
Those holes could be filled by returning guys like Big Show and Kane, who are both reportedly make their way back to action on this show. But if that's really the case, who the hell does that leave to fill up the rest of the card? I'm not sure these plans won't change big time by Nov. 20 but it looks like we'll get something like this.
While WWE hasn't officially confirmed as much, Rock is also reportedly set to return to Raw before Survivor Series and will do a couple shows before the pay-per-view, even if it's just a taped appearance like he did earlier this year.
