On this date in WWF history: Ric Flair defeats 'Macho Man' Randy Savage for the heavyweight title

"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair falls head-over-heels for the late, great Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Oh, YEAH.
"The Nature Boy" Ric Flair falls head-over-heels for the late, great Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Oh, YEAH.

And he had a little help from Razor Ramon.

On this date in WWF history, Ric Flair capped off his program with Randy Savage by defeating "The Macho Man" at a television taping in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Flair, who was expected to feud with Hulk Hogan shortly after joining the company, instead found himself paired off against Savage when the Hulkster was asked to lay low thanks to the government's accusation that Hogan was taking too many vitamins.

After winning the vacant WWF title in a marathon performance at the 1992 Royal Rumble, "The Nature Boy" was pinned by Savage at Wrestlemania VIII, coughing up the title it took him nearly an hour to obtain.

On September 1, 1992, he would get it back.

One of the more humorous aspects of this angle was Flair's insistence that he was engaged in prior relations with Miss Elizabeth, prompting the now-infamous doctored photos as proof of purchase.

Whaddaya say Cagesiders, great program?

Or underwhelming considering the level of talent involved?
