With John Cena tied up at next year's WrestleMania 28 in a match against The Rock, that means CM Punk will eventually have to move on to feud with someone else to get him in a big money maker on "The Grandest Stage of Them All."
Speculation at the moment has Triple H stepping in to fill that role, which makes sense with the way "The Game" is positioning himself on Raw right now. However, there is another name that occasionally floats around and finds a few lips -- Stone Cold Steve Austin.
"The Rattlesnake" was recently a guest on "Attack of the Show" on the G4 cable channel and was specifically asked about doing a match with Punk at 'Mania next year. His response:
"CM Punk is a big Stone Cold Steve Austin fan. I'm a big fan of what that guy's been doing. I've been following him. I think he's the hottest, freshest thing going in that company. He's cutting great promos. I love what he's doing in the ring. I love the storyline. It would be a great match-up. I'm not saying it's going to happen. I'm not saying it's not going to happen. It's something to think about. ... If I were to have one last tango, doing it with CM Punk would be the way to go."
It's not crazy to think this is something that could feasibly happen but I wouldn't hold my breath. The current and former champion frequently engage in spirited exchanges on Twitter that generally result in hilarity and entertainment on level with the product on television right now.
Austin is currently going through the paces of promoting his upcoming movie "Tactical Force," meaning this can all be taken with a grain of salt. But we can all salivate at what a match between the original anti-hero and the current anti-establishment would look like, right?
After the jump is video of Stone Cold's appearance, where he talks about doing the movie, his fight scene with former UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine and more.
