Former WWE wrestler Shane Helms arrested for DWI relating to May 2011 accident

In a story that keeps going from bad to worse, another OMEGA veteran has been busted for DWI.

Coming off the heels of Matt Hardy's arrest last week, it seems Shane Helms' past has caught up with him.

In May of this year, Helms was involved in a single-vehicle accident that police believed may have been alcohol or drug related. "Hurricane" wrecked his motorcycle, suffering a broken leg, ankle, jaw, and nose while also having to receive over 200 stitches. His girlfriend, who was also on the bike at the time of the accident, suffered a broken vertebrae.

I spoke with Lynne Kirby, the Support Services Manager of Smithfield, North Carolina, who confirmed that the arrest -- which occured early Wednesday morning -- come as a result of evidence from the accident.

This is only days after the former WWE superstar went onto his Twitter to defend Hardy against what he viewed as baseless allegations from callous wrestling fans.

Of course, this isn't "Sugar's" first rodeo.

Not only was Helms implicated in the 2007 Sports Illustrated steroids exposé -- the same that named Eddie Guerrero, Edge, et al. -- but he was arrested last year in Kentucky along with Chris Jericho after allegedly assaulting "The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla" as well as others in a cab.

The two were cited for public intoxication and paid a small fine.

Maybe it's something in the North Carolina water but this group seems to be living on borrowed time and drastic action should be taken by someone.

The WWE offers free rehab to any of its former talent and we can only hope that both Hardy brothers as well as Helms seriously consider taking their former employer up on that offer.
