If you thought gay rights group GLAAD pressurising WWE to take action over John Cena's homophobic jokes on Raw and CM Punk's usage of a gay slur against heckling fans at a house show in Australia was heavy handed, then this takes the biscuit. Unsurprisingly animal rights group PETA aren't fans of Shawn Michaels' MacMillan River Adventures, the Heartbreak Kid's new hunting reality TV show on The Outdoor Channel. Which is fair enough I suppose. However, they crossed the line to obscenely tasteless levels by likening HBK to Jeffrey Dahmer in an article with Fox News, one of the most notorious serial killers in American history, whose murders often involved rape, dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism:
Jeffrey Dahmer ate everything he killed, too, but that didn't justify taking innocent lives.
Thankfully Shawn didn't rise to PETA's bait and countered with a much more sensible, logical and factual argument:
In every aspect of my life, I live under the protection of and in accordance to the laws of this nation. At the end of the day, it's a wildlife biological fact and a conservation fact that the game must be managed. There's only so much habitat, i.e. food, out there. If you have 100 acres worth of food and you've got 500 animals out there, the young ones and the old ones are going to starve to death, because they can't compete. When they starve, they start to eat things they shouldn't be eating and spread disease not only to them, but to us.
Similar to when Shane Helms called him a religious hypocrite, Shawn also politely played down the controversy on his Twitter feed:
Went 2 bed a Dad who took 4 kids catch & release Catfishing, woke up Jeffrey Dahmer. Why take my life seriously, its so amusing:-)
What's even worse. We are all about to have ice cream for our first meal of the day. Oh yea, its anarchy at our house today:-)
