After a long wait for Strikeforce's Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza, as well as for Luke Rockhold, the news broke today that the two will face each other for the Strikeforce middleweight title on September 10th.
The city, venue, and other specs of the card have not yet been officially announced by Strikeforce.
MMA Junkie reported that a bout between new signee (and former Sengoku fighter) Maximo Blanco and Josh Thompson will also take place on the event.
'Jacare' is currently on a 4 fight win streak, defeating Matt Lindland, Joey Villasenor, Tim Kennedy and Robbie Lawler during the run.
Luke Rockhold, one of Strikeforce's young up-and-comer's, has won 6 of his 7 fights. He has also won each of his fights by either a submission or a TKO.
Maximo Blanco was recently signed by Strikeforce and is also a young phenom with much potential. Blanco had spent his entire career fighting in Japan (for Pancrase and Sengoku) up to this point. He has amassed a record of 8-2-1, with 1 NC (accidental headbutt vs. Yuki Yashima), and has notable wins over Rodrigo Damm and the Inoue brothers (Seigo and Katsuya).
Josh Thompson, a veteran of the sport, holds a record of 18-4 with 1 NC (groin kick vs. "Kid" Yamamoto). He has beaten such names as "Razor" Rob McCullogh, Hermes Franca, Duane Ludwig, Nam Phan, Gilbert Melendez and Gesias Cavalcante. His last fight was a loss to Tastuya Kawajiri at "Dynamtie! 2010" in Tokyo, Japan.
