We try not to jump the gun too much, and I admittedly salivated at the possibility of a rematch between Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson (because being right and picking Evans the first time was so nice I could do it twice). Add that to reports of Thiago Silva being pulled from the card due to an unconfirmed positive "A" sample from the Brandon Vera bout, and you get a post that I now regret (I... am... a moron) and must correct.
Via MMA Junkie, also known as the same site that originally reported Rashad/Rampage II:
Just days after reports surfaced that Thiago Silva was set to be pulled from his bout against Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and former champion Rashad Evans was slated to take the spot, the fight has changed again.
MMAWeekly.com has confirmed with sources close to the negotiations that former "Ultimate Fighter" competitor Matt Hamill has been contacted and agreed to face Jackson at the UFC 130 card in May.
Hamill was slated to face 205 wunderkind Phil Davis at UFC 129, and is probably more remembered for being brutalized by Jon Jones en route to a DQ victory than he is for shutting down Tito Ortiz his last time out. If true, they certainly seem to be at the "what can we actually get out of Hamill" phase of the TUF competitor's career - or this is another crappy Rampage/Jardine situation, where it's a one-way #1 contender's bout in the spirit of Hominick-Roop last month. Of course, if Rampage does to Hamill what Hominick did to Roop, complaints will be few and far between.
Then again, who knows. Take it all with a grain of salt. Nothing is official until it happens. And of course, stay tuned so you can keep up on the latest items that we reported and subsequently discovered to be false. Yay, media!
