On this date in WCW history: Bret Hart becomes champion by submitting Sting and Chris Benoit at 'Mayhem'

Submitting Sting and Chris Benoit is no easy feat. Doing it in consecutive bouts on a professional wrestling pay-per-view to win the title?

Someone in booking really likes you.

On November 21, 1999, Bret Hart won the strap in the WCW World Heavyweight Championship Tournament at the Mayhem pay-per-view from the Air Canada Centre in the promotion's first-ever trip the Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The tournament format was in response to Sting being stripped of the title after losing a non-sanctioned match against Goldberg and attacking referee Charles Robinson at Halloween Havoc.

He would not get it back.

"The Hitman" wins the tournament by submitting Chris Benoit, after the jump.

Hart calls this date in history one of the greatest moments of his WCW career.
