Out with the old, in with the older.
I often make snide remarks on WWE and its continued decision making that drives most fans, including myself, up the wall. But tonight (Oct. 2) at Hell in a Cell in New Orleans, a decision was made that has me grinning from ear to ear.
The classic white leather Intercontinental championship is back.
I cannot stress enough how much of a difference this makes. I literally care more about that belt now that it's gone back to the classic look. Cody Rhodes, who defended said championship against John Morrsion tonight, put it over huge when he unveiled it, lauding it as the belt worn by such legends as Macho Man Randy Savage, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.
Indeed, this belt is a thing of beauty.
It was time for a change, too. The now deceased version of the title, which was entirely too small and looked like it belonged in the long dead cruiserweight division, had been active since 1998. And while they went back to an older version of the belt, they went back to the best version. I sincerely hope they keep the white leather look. There's nothing better.
The Intercontinental title is now the most aesthetically pleasing belt in WWE. Here's to hoping it gets treated with the proper respect going forward with regards to the booking.
Are you Cagesiders as happy with this development as I am?
