When the ratings come down each Friday for the previous night's cable television slate, Jersey Shore on MTV always crushes TNA Impact Wrestling on Spike TV.
So, naturally, Dixie Carter got it in her head that one way to fix that would be to, quite simply, sign a few stars from the popular reality television show and have them appear on Impact.
We knew they were in negotiations to bring Ronnie Ortiz-Magro in and now they've done so. From the ImpactWrestling.com report:
Ronnie Ortiz-Magro gets in the ring with TNA's IMPACT WRESTLING on SpikeTV! Star of MTV's "Jersey Shore" makes his wrestling debut on Thursday, November 3. Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, star of MTV's megahit series, "Jersey Shore," will bring his pumping fists and bravado into the wrestling ring on TNA's "Impact Wrestling" airing exclusively on Spike TV Thursday, November 3 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
Why is pro wrestling copy always so cheesy?
Anyway, this isn't the first time Carter has tried to hot shot a rating out of a Jersey Shore star and it certainly won't be the last. The problem is that bringing in reality stars like this typically has absolutely no effect on ratings. Indeed, when JWOWW appeared on Impact, her program produced the lowest rated segment of the entire show.
That should tell you all you need to know.
WWE isn't above using stars from other venues and even using Jersey Shore stars. Except they bagged the big wig, Snooki, and used her in a successful angle at WrestleMania. Not only did it show up TNA in every way, shape and form, but it showed how to properly handle bringing in a star from the outside and how to use them correctly.
TNA, unfortunately, doesn't seem to get it. And now they've wasted even more money on a guy no pro wrestling fan cares about. Big surprise, right?
