"DH" Harry Smith serious about making a move to mixed martial arts (MMA)

I know we don't really cover mixed martial arts (MMA) anymore here at CSS but this little knowledge nugget might be of interest to some of you.

This past weekend I attended the UFC Fan Expo in Houston, Texas and ended up running into none other than Harry Smith! The former WWE Superstar was doing some promotional work for "The Burn Machine," an exercise machine endorsed by the likes of Brock Lesnar and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva.

Since he was technically on the clock, I didn't want to take up too much of his time but I did manage to grab a couple of tidbits from the artist formerly known as DH Smith.

Since parting ways with the WWE, he's been keeping himself busy in Japan for Inoki Genome Federation (IGF). While his gig with IGF isn't exactly news, why he's rasslin' across the Pacific might be. Over the summer it was reported that the son of Davey Boy Smith is looking to make a transition to MMA. While he trains and hones his craft -- including spending some time with Strikeforce heavyweight Josh Barnett -- he's been moonlighting as a wrestler before the big time cagefighting checks come in.

The success rate of former WWE Superstars who have made the jump from the squared circle to the chain link cage is spotty at best. Lesnar reached the pinnacle of the sport when he won the UFC heavyweight strap but Bobby Lashley sputtered and eventually stalled out in Strikeforce.

Will Smith be more Lesnar or Lashley? If his MMA career is anything like his handshake, he'll do amazingly well. That thing is like a freaking vice.
