Another stoppage in the second fight of the night. After Jake Ellenberger outwrestled John Howard for 2 and a half rounds the doctors at ringside called the fight after checking on Howard. In the second round Ellenberger was on top and blasted Howard with an elbow that caught him in the eye and made a huge mouse. Before the 3rd round even started the Howard's left eye was totally shut but he came out and battled. Eventually the ref was forced to stop it.
Howard was getting the better of the stand up, no problem. He landed a big head kick at the opening of round 2 and even followed up with a big right hand but he could not capitalize. Somehow Ellenberger recovered and got yet another takedown. Overall, Howard did well from the bottom with not letting Jake batter him but the few elbows that got through really counted.
In round 3 Howard came out and landed a huge knee but again Ellenberger survived and scored another takedown. A big win for Ellenberger and Howard now knows that he definitely needs to work more on his takedown defense. He was in good spirits after the fight and I'm sure we'll see him back soon.
