TNA to copy WWE's ECW One Night Stand concept at their next PPV Hard Justice

That's what Dave Meltzer is reporting:

At the end of tonight's show, which will air on 7/22, they announced the 8/8 Hard Justice PPV will be essentially a remake of the ECW One Night Stand show.  Tommy Dreamer did an interview where he even referenced how the 2005 show was supposed to be the end, but Vince McMahon brought it back and ruined it.  He did one of his crying promos asking Dixie Carter to give them one last night, and Carter agreed, saying that the former ECW guys will have full control of the PPV and he promised people would see ECW as it should be and not what Vince McMahon turned it into.

Somehow I don't think this will be the last ever ECW nostalgia show, but we can only hope that it'll be the last one on a national stage.  It's worth noting that Tommy Dreamer wasn't publicly crying about Vince McMahon prostituting ECW's legacy while he was cashing Vince's checks for three and half years as he gladly took full opportunity to attempt to relive his glory days as a hardcore hero, but why let reality get in the way of a good "shoot" promo.

One problem with this idea is that the show is going to be held at the building synonymous with TNA - the Impact Zone in Orlando, FL and not at a building synonymous with ECW like the ECW Arena in Philadelphia, PA or the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, NY.  What made the original ECW One Night Stand show so memorable was the rabid crowd that lapped up the note perfect nostalgia served by Paul Heyman and they're unlikely to get the same molten reaction in Orlando five years later.  The other sad thing, given the fact that TNA's recent PPVs drew well under 10,000 buys, is that this is likely to be the least bought "ECW" PPV in history.

Jason Powell is reporting that Tommy Dreamer is heavily involved in the creative direction of the ECW angle:

Although Dreamer has told his coworkers that he's not involved in creative, the word from people in the know is that he has been working closely with Vince Russo on ECW related material.

He later confirmed Dave Meltzer's report that TNA's Hard Justice PPV will follow the format of WWE's past ECW One Night Stand PPVs:

The word backstage at the TNA Impact tapings is that the Hard Justice pay-per-view will feature one-off matches featuring former ECW talent.  The buzz is that additional former ECW wrestlers will be brought in for the show.

And gave some juicy backstage gossip regarding last night's angle involving Dixie Carter and Tommy Dreamer:

One observer noted that Vince Russo was over the top with his praise for Carter's performance.  There was also some snickering backstage over Dreamer's tearful promo with Carter. One observer stated that it looked like Dreamer was trying too hard to cry. Seeing is believing on that one, as crying has been Dreamer's specialty over the years.

Hey, that's why he's in no position of losing his job while Dixie Carter remains in control of hiring and firing people!
