Wow, WWE now thinks Randy Savage is a bigger star than Cena, Flair, Hogan and Bruno (amongst others)!

If you thought Mattel making a new Randy Savage action figure as part of their WWE legends line was a pretty big surprise, then even more surprising is Savage's ranking in WWE's soon to be released Top 50 Superstars Of All Time DVD, given that the rankings are clearly indicative of who's in and out of favour with WWE management at the time the DVD was made.  In the leaked list shown after the jump Savage is amazingly ranked higher than bigger wrestling legends Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and Bruno Sammartino, and he's even above WWE's current top star John Cena.  Amazing because most insiders in the business, including even Dave Meltzer and it seems Mick Foley, believe that Vince McMahon will never do business with Randy Savage because he once slept with his daughter Stephanie.  Personally I've always been suspicious of those rumours, as the story just doesn't seem to add up and these rankings give more cause to be sceptical.  Surely Randy Savage is ranked far too high for Vince, who surely must have approved the final listing, to be looking to stick it to Savage for some deep seated, personal grudge?

Feel free to pick apart the rankings in the comments section.  My own perspective is that for all the ballyhoo about how silly and petty this list is, it's not like WWE purposefully erased anyone major from their history by not ranking them (apart from Chris Benoit and perhaps Owen Hart but in both cases that's understandable).  Would Frank Shamrock crack a top 50 UFC fighters DVD?  I mean it's perfectly understandable for WWE to not want to put over too strongly their former wrestlers who are working for their current competitors.
