In late 1988, after leaving the CWF, Eddie Gilbert went to WCW as a babyface. On the January 14, 1989 episode of World Championship Wrestling: Saturday Edition, he got a United States Title shot against Barry Windham. It's a fantastic match, especially for free TV. Afterwards, Windham and Ric Flair attacked him. Wanting revenge, he challenged them to a tag match on the following week's show where he'd have a mystery partner at his side. A masked man signed the contract as Mr. X. When it was time for the match, there was no masked man. It was the returning Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.
In a famous match, Steamboat pinned Flair, kicking off their feud. Gilbert still had business to settle with the Horsemen, and we'll check that out after the jump.
Gilbert took on Flair in a singles bout, which was another excellent match that's well worth watching.
He also teamed with Kendall Windham (Barry's brother) against Barry himself and Horsemen manager J.J. Dillon, but that thdidn't work out as well for him as the Steamboat partnership did:
