Earlier this week, it was reported that Nick Diaz no-showed a drug test requested by the California State Athletic Commission, and that his fight with Jay Hieron was off. Now, the Observer is reporting that there may still be hope:
The California State Athletic Commission specified that if Nick Diaz doesn't make an appointment for testing by Noon Pacific time that the fight with Jay Hieron on Saturday's Strikeforce show is out.
Scott Coker has said that a few potential back-up opponents have been contacted. He said that he would continue to work with Diaz even if he doesn't show up for the test, but that the two would have a talking to.
Coker said that he had sent plane tickets for Diaz to fly to Los Angeles for the test today and that there was no miscommunication between himself, the commission and Diaz.
Obviously Strikeforce wants Diaz to fight, because Diaz is unarguably amazing and one of the few drawing cards Strikeforce has at this point outside of the just-signed Fedor. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
