Back in late 2015, less than a year into his main roster run when he was Intercontinental champion, Kevin Owens said he hoped he could use the next year to position himself to be a viable opponent for Undertaker at WrestleMania. He’s done exactly that.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, Undertaker is in this year’s Royal Rumble match and Owens is the current Universal champion. It’s the perfect set up for Owens to get his wish, assuming, of course, it is still his wish.
Spoiler: It is.
From a recent conference call (via Sky Sports):
"I can't remember a Rumble line-up in recent years that has been so strong. There are giant Superstars and facing one of them at WrestleMania would be a huge match - and who doesn't want a huge match at WrestleMania? If I had to narrow it down to one it would be The Undertaker. He is synonymous with that event and I was always in awe of him - as a kid, teenager and adult.”
It doesn’t seem likely Undertaker vs. Owens for the Universal title will be on the card at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando but would you really complain if that’s the direction they went?
