On the latest edition of Cageside Live, your humble hosts (myself, Sean Rueter, and Matt Roth) got to talking about Triple H and his place in history as a wrestler. We came to the consensus conclusion that while he was very good for a period of time, namely pre-quad tear in 2001, he's always lived in the shadow of his best friend, Shawn Michaels, who is likely the greatest to ever step into the ring.
It's now 2014 and a certain pro wrestling legend, Harley Race, actually believes "The Game", who isn't even a full time wrestler at this point, is the very best in the world today (via BetweenTheRopes.com):
"Right now, I'd have to say Hunter because I watched his style, he's a lot of mind and he took it and put it to a frame that became his. He's just good at what he does."
There's little questioning Triple H being good at what he does; that's undoubtedly true. He's an outstanding heel who has done more to drive interest in his match with Daniel Bryan than anyone else has done for their match on the WrestleMania 30 card this Sunday night (April 6, 2014) in New Orleans.
But the best wrestler in the world? At this point, he won't even be the best wrestler in the ring for his next match.
To that point, Race also said he would be surprised if Bryan wins twice at WrestleMania:
"Well if he (Bryan) does, it'll surprise me. Just being able to talk a great match and performing great matches six/seven nights a week is a different ballgame because it is a different time."
I'll let you Cagesiders take it from here. I'm sure you've got plenty to say on this and you know where to do it.
