When word first started circulating that Sting would finally be coming to WWE, I fantasy booked a scenario that would see him challenge Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania 31 after an entire year's worth of build starting at WrestleMania 30 on April 6, 2014, in New Orleans.
Let's go ahead and scrap all that.
New rumors -- granted, they're simply rumors right now -- suggest that Sting has, in fact, signed with WWE and will quite possibly making his debut at WrestleMania 30 in some capacity. Rumors are also suggesting Undertaker may stick around after taking care of his business with Brock Lesnar on the same show.
Here's a new proposal: A Sting vs. Undertaker retirement match at SummerSlam on Aug. 17 in Los Angeles.
Sting has already made it clear that he has no interest in working with any other wrestler not just on the WWE roster but period. Undertaker is the only match he wants and at the ripe old age of 54 (he turns 55 tomorrow), it's about time for him to exit stage left.
Why not give him the best of both worlds?
Yes, this would mean he will have finished his career without ever working a match at WrestleMania, but he will have at least appeared at one to set up the dream match he always wanted but never had the chance to put together. This would give SummerSlam a monster main event and make it a marquee attraction with roughly five months time to build to it.
And if the match stinks out the joint like so many seem to think it will, well, at least it's not happening at the biggest show of the year.
Any of you Cagesiders up for this proposal?
