The original Sin Cara, Mistico, has been rumored to be moving on from WWE with his contract running out soon. It seems that has now been confirmed, according to PW Insider, with the recent revelation in the Luchas 2000 Magazine that he will be returning to the ring on Feb. 1 in Mexico City to promote his the anniversary of his gym.
It wasn't long ago that WWE was responding to inquiries about his status by saying he was under contract and it would continue to invest in his character and retain it on WWE programming.
Considering the fact that this came after Hunico donned the Sin Cara mask and worked as the character that spoke volumes for the company's intentions, namely the fact that he likely wouldn't be re-signed.
Sin Cara's run with WWE has been marked with problems. He was one of Triple H's first hand-picked projects after he largely took over the developmental side of talent but he quickly estranged those in power by failing a drug test shortly into his first big push.
Still later, he would make things harder by getting even more heat on himself for stopping a match against Alberto Del Rio despite a dislocated finger, silly as that might seem.
Add it all up and he was not exactly the most popular performer in the WWE locker room.
The problem, of course, is that his merchandise sells incredibly well, giving WWE every reason to keep him around. It seems he's worn out his welcome, however, especially with Hunico -- who wasn't doing anything else and doesn't cause nearly the same number of headaches -- around to fill in for him.
