In hindsight, the pairing of Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara as a tag team couldn't be more fitting, although we should have known it wouldn't last long considering those involved. The latter, as noted here, is dealing with heat from those in WWE for his inability to work through injuries much lesser than those worked through by others before him while the latter is still on the shelf from a knee injury he's been rehabbing for as long as anyone can remember.
The hope within WWE was that he would be back in time for SummerSlam, and, as Mysterio himself tells Arda Ocal, that was indeed the plan. But his recovery process has been slow and he's since pushed his return date back a month:
"I'm doing good. Slow process. Tried a new method for, in this case, rehabbing my knee. And it's working out but we haven't had that full result yet. I'm hoping that within the next month or so I should be seeing some more positive results. I was really hoping (to return at) 'SummerSlam,' that was my main goal, my main objective. But since it didn't happen, I'm pushing it one month back, September, let's say."
As noted by our resident rumor monger Eric B. Stephen, Mysterio is already advertised for a house show on Aug. 23 in Fresno, California. It's possible he doesn't make the show, but it falls within the time frame given for his long awaited return to action.
Considering the fact that WWE is going to have to get through the next four-to-six months without both John Cena and Sheamus, Mysterio's return is no doubt going to be welcomed by all parties.
Now let's just hope the duct tape holding him together doesn't give out so quickly this time.
