WWE reports Fandango suffered a concussion last week

WWE.com

WWE is now reporting on its website that Fandango suffered a concussion last week. The way it's being played up, though, makes it seem as though the injury is kayfabe.

In an article on its website posted earlier today, WWE is now reporting that Fandango suffered a concussion during his match with Zack Ryder on Friday Night SmackDown last week and his status for the upcoming Payback pay-per-view (PPV) this Sunday night (June 16, 2013) in Chicago is now in doubt.

From the report:

Fandango did not compete at any WWE Live Events throughout the weekend, and there is speculation backstage at the Richmond Coliseum - the site of tonight's Raw - as to how this will affect the scheduled Intercontinental Championship Triple Threat Match at WWE Payback this Sunday pitting the dancing Superstar and The Miz against reigning titleholder Wade Barrett.

At a glance, this seems to be more along the lines of Triple H's concussion than Dolph Ziggler's. In fact, it screams "kayfabe," dripping with it all throughout.

For starters, it references SmackDown on Friday, as opposed to the date it was taped on, that being last Tuesday. For that matter, we would have heard about it by now if it was a legitimate concussion, seeing as Ziggler had his reported on immediately after it happened, with WWE fully acknowledging SmackDown being a taped show and his getting hurt on a Tuesday night.

Here's the match in question:

Smells like an angle, Cagesiders. But what's the point with Triple H already involved in one just like it?

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The original article was quickly changed to reflect a far more realistic view on the injury:

WWE.com sources have reported that Fandango suffered a concussion during the SmackDown taping on Tuesday night and was pulled from WWE Live Events throughout the week.

Fandango passed his impact test, but has yet to pass further testing needed for clearance.

When it was first posted, the article was written to reflect kayfabe but the updated post certainly makes it sound like Fandango legitimately got hurt. From watching the match, it's difficult to see exactly where, though.
