Because the Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV), scheduled for Sun., May 19, 2013, at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, requires each match on the card to have a stipulation, it was only a matter of time before the John Cena vs. Ryback WWE title bout would get its special gimmick.
And now it has it.
On tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw in Virginia, Vickie Guerrero allowed Ryback to choose whichever stipulation he wanted and he chose a Last Man Standing match.
From the WWE.com preview:
John Cena persevered through a nearly 18-month title drought before reclaiming the WWE Championship at WrestleMania, but if Ryback has his way, Cena's 11th WWE Title reign will come to a quick and unceremonious end at Extreme Rules.
The bald-headed shredder - arguably WWE's most dominate competitor of the last year - will receive first crack at the new WWE Champion at the May 19 pay-per-view, and the golden opportunity will go down on Ryback's terms, in a Last Man Standing Match. The stipulations could prove unfavorable for The Champ, who suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon while competing in Europe in April.
Is a Last Man Standing match enough to sell you on this encounter? Or is there nothing that can be done to entice you into purchasing a card featuring Cena vs. Ryback?
Here's the updated Extreme Rules match card:
- Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H in a steel cage match
- John Cena vs. Ryback in a last man standing match
- Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Jack Swagger in a ladder match
